Nurture Packs Help Women Stay Connected

Members of the Cleveland Australia Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently worked together to help support women in the local Redlands community.

To celebrate 177 years of the Church’s Relief Society organisation (the Church’s organisation for women), approximately 60 women volunteered their time to prepare “nurture packs” for mothers and newborns, donated to the Redlands Centre For Women, a volunteer organisation that provides opportunities for women to be empowered, educated and connected with the community.

With many women in the community feeling isolated and disconnected after the birth of their babies, the nuture packs help connect these women through the generosity of others. They also help promote positive infant and maternal health. The nurture packs contain nappies, creams, hand-made bibs and baby beanies, and other essentials as well as information for new mothers.

The Redlands Centre for Women will be donating the packs to the local hospital which in turn will provide a pack as a gift to each mother who has a baby at the hospital.

Cleveland Stake Relief Society President Veronica Barr said the donations are a way for the members of the Church to serve their local community. “We are very excited to have this opportunity to serve our local community,” said Sister Barr. “We hope it inspires women to continue to look within their communities for opportunities to serve and help others on a regular basis. The efforts from today mean the Redlands Centre for Women will have many new packs to help new mothers in the Redlands area. We are thankful to be able to serve our local community and to help strengthen women through this service. In giving of ourselves we are following the example of our Saviour Jesus Christ,” Sister Barr explained. “As Relief Society sisters we are grateful to serve and love those around us,” concluded Sister Barr.

The Relief Society organisation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated its 177th birthday on 17 March 2019. The Church’s Relief Society organisation is the world’s oldest and largest womens’ organisation, with over six million sisters in 170 countries worldwide.
