With smiling faces and tools in hand, members of the Moe, Devon Meadows, Cranbourne and Lynbrook congregations of the Gippsland Stake (diocese) weeded, cleared debris and tidied the grounds for two cemeteries and the Drouin South Primary School in three separate projects for the Pacific Area-wide Day of Service.
According to Ron Moore, there was plenty of work but also plenty of laughter and a real willingness to labour together as bonds of friendship were strengthened amongst old and young participants.
“It was a blessing to be able to serve in this way, and for all to feel of the joy that comes in giving service to another,” he observed.
While some of the younger participants mentioned sore backs and muscles they also were overheard to say, “Things really looked great after we finished. Maybe we could go there again. It was fun.”
Drouin South Primary School Principal Michael Smith added, “It was really nice to come to school this week as it looked really neat and tidy. When everything is in order, it feels better.”
Held annually in October, the Day of Service is an opportunity for families and individuals to work together to benefit their neighbourhoods and communities and to follow the example of Jesus Christ.
