Alzheimer's Dance

The Mary Chester Tea Dance, held by Alzheimer's Australia WA, is an annual event held at the Government House Ballroom which gives seniors in the community, especially those living with dementia, the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of music and dance.

Anouck Van Dyck of the Perth Dianella Stake was part of a volunteer group that donated their time to provide companionship and dancing partners for the afternoon soirée. Kiri West of the Perth Warwick Stake helped prepare and serve the culinary delights that guests enjoyed throughout the afternoon as part of a service project through her high school.

A half-day training course to gain a basic understanding of dementia and how it affects people's lives was also attended prior to the dance, which proved invaluable on the day.

“To be able to serve the elderly in our community in such a positive and rewarding way was a humbling experience that we both enjoyed immensely," said Anouck.
