After months of construction, a movie set mock up of Jerusalem at the time of Christ is now in use. Built by artisans and construction experts in the semi-arid landscape of central Utah, the site will meet film needs of the Latter-day Saints for many years.
Church owned land near the town of Goshen, Utah, was selected for the realistic small city.
Production Designer John Uibel told Fox 13 News, "This piece of property is unique because it has lots of hills and valleys; it even has a river that we will use as the Jordan River. It has a sand dune area. We have groves of trees, we have gulleys... everything."
Producer Scott Smiley was asked by Fox News about the fate of the city when this project ends.
"It's a permanent set, and so it will continue to be used for other filming and photography," said Smiley. "Instead of building and tearing down and building and tearing down every time we need stories told in the setting of Jerusalem, we'll have this as a resource for years to come."
No mention has been made that the gates of the new Jerusalem be open to the public.
