Around 50 members from the Baldivis, WA congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined with local Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby in volunteering at the Mead Farm on the 6th May 2017. Their time was spent pulling onion weeds to help the Peel Group Riding for the Disabled, a local organisation which owns the farm and provides equine-based therapy for disabled children and others.
One of the environmental concerns on the farm is local onion weed, which makes the horses sick. To keep the grounds chemical free, they need large groups to line up and manually pull the weeds from their paddocks.
Bishop James Bennett said, “When you finish a project like this in helping the disabled, especially children, it just makes you feel good.” Reece Whiby MLA thanked the members on his Facebook page by adding a couple of photos and wrote, “Thanks to Mormon Helping Hands for your hard work".
