The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today in response to media enquiries:
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints complies with tax law in every country in which it is established. Church leaders also encourage members of the Church to obey the law of the land, including paying taxes honestly and appropriately. The Church exists to help individuals, families and communities. It does this by assisting people to become closer to God and to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Church also assists people through its extensive welfare, self-reliance and humanitarian programs."
