A group of around 100 youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints raised over $15,000 for Interplast Australia this year, the culmination of a year of service and fundraising in the community by youth from Cranbourne to Gippsland in Victoria. Fund raising efforts included bake sales, traffic light collecting, sausage sizzles and car washes.
The funds raised will go towards Interplast’s efforts in Laos, where volunteer medical practitioners are helping support the overstretched health care system. By performing essential plastic surgery for conditions such as cleft palate and burns as well as providing much needed training, these volunteers empower individuals and communities by giving of their time and skills.
Interplast Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Prue Ingram, expressed appreciation to the young fundraisers in a check-presentation ceremony, saying, “You are contributing just as much as any anaesthetist or surgeon.”
