Day 19 #LightTheWorld: Rejoice and Spread a Little Christmas Cheer

As the Christmas Season draws near it is a good time to "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad"

More than 1000 attendees flocked to the annual “Joy to the World” Christmas concert at Kangaroo Point, sponsored by the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

People of all ages, nationalities and religious traditions were welcomed to the ‘Point’ to enjoy live nativity scenes, musical performances, Christmas stories and international carols.

One attendee, Sister Lorraine Victorsen, a leader in the Sisters of Mercy Catholic order, brought a number of retired nuns, because she felt that “it was a great way to prepare for Christmas". She added: "It was a very enjoyable evening."

Another attendee, Ari Heber, President of Queensland Jewish Community Services, said he came because, "it's important to support other faiths in their beliefs." He also added: "What stood out to us about the event was how friendly everyone was towards us."

Latter-day Saint Church leader, Dr Esben Strodl, was overwhelmed by the community response. He said: "We were thrilled that our Christmas musical production could be enjoyed by members of the local community as well as those from other faiths such as the Catholic and Jewish communities. We hope that each year this free production may bring a little cheer, as well as a sense of peace and goodwill to those living in this neighborhood as we all try to serve each other in our respective ways."

This annual event is quickly becoming a highlight of the Southeast Queensland Christmas calendar. The program was headlined by a local community choir, MUSICA. Other performances included talented voice and instrumental soloists, a children’s chorus and several audience-participant carols.

God loves us and wants us to be happy. We have many reasons to be happy, even if we don't realise all of them. One way we find joy is by helping others feel joy. Members of The Church in Brisbane gave joy to their community with their gift of Christmas songs.

Jesus taught: "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad." Mathew 5:12.
