Footballer Puts Professional Career on Hold to Serve as Missionary

18 year-old Sydney man, Richard Amone, has decided to put his professional rugby league career on hold in order to serve as a missionary in the Philippines for the next two years.

Young people have a variety of choices for a career before them as the reach adulthood. Should they find a job or pursue tertiary education? Should they seek vocational training or secure an apprenticeship? Or do something else?

For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all able young men and women are encouraged to put these pursuits on hold to give missionary service for two years.

There are approximately 80,000 Latter-day Saints serving as missionaries around the world. These include young men and women in their late teens and early 20’s, as well as retired senior couples.

Read more about Amone’s decision in the Fairfield City Champion newspaper.
