Four young missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently featured on SBS Television during their weekly broadcast "The Feed"
SBS filmed for two days as Elder Ferney, Elder Ball, Sister Wilson and Sister Spainhower went about their daily routine as Mormon missionaries in Sydney.
The young men and women left their homes, families and friends in Utah, Samoa and California to serve missions, during which they focus on teaching and serving others for 18-24 months.
During the SBS filming they shared their feelings of how much they love setting aside this time in their lives to do something for others and how much they receive when they give.
When asked “Why do you do this?” Elder Ball expressed his feelings by saying, “I do this because I love the Lord and I want to serve him because he has given me so much.” Each missionary expressed their love for Jesus Christ and their desire to help others find that same joy.
They spend their days offering service in local communities and reaching out to anyone who is seeking a better life.
Sofia became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after being taught by the missionaries. "The feeling I had when I talked to the missionaries on the street surprised me. I never thought this would be the beginning of finding my church. Somehow I believed that it must be the direction of Heavenly Father to answer the stranger missionary's invitation. Feeling the changes inside is a great thing, especially when seeing the answer to my prayers. I realise that God truly does have a great plan for me. It gives me a purpose in life."
Eight hundred Mormon missionaries from thirty different countries are currently serving throughout Australia. Mormon missionaries can also be found in New Zealand and other countries of the South Pacific. Throughout the world more than 74,000 missionaries serve in 418 missions.
