Multicultural communities recently came together in the City of Melton to celebrate Harmony Day which coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Harmony Day is an inclusive event for interfaith groups and multicultural groups to share what they have in common and to respect everyone - from the traditional owners of the land to those who have come from around the world to Australia.
This year approximately 1,200 people participated in the event enjoying ethnic foods, African drumming demonstrations and 18 different cultural performances. Members of various faiths shared their beliefs and answered questions through displays including the Baha 'i faith and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
President of the Melton Interfaith Network David Cowan said, "Harmony Day is a time for the Melton community to get together and learn from one another. Our mission is to promote respect, understanding, cooperation and appreciation for all religions and faith groups."
