Youth gathered from around the world to share their projects, ideals and challenges in solving religious and cultural conflicts at a recent conference in Brisbane's Centre for Interfaith & Cultural Dialogue (ICD).
The conference, part of a global interfaith youth movement called ACWAY (A Common Word Among Youth), was sponsored by the World Scouting Movement, the Right Start Foundation of the U.K., and the ICD. Country delegates included youth from Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Russian Tatarstan, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Tajikistan, and the United Kingdom.

The Spirit of Things, an ABC Radio National program by Dr Rachael Kohn, ran an interview entitled "We are Committed", highlighting participants in the international youth conference on interfaith and intercultural peace and understanding. Dr Brian Adams, director of the ICD and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was interviewed on some of the perceptions others have of the Mormon Church.
As part of the conference, the youth ratified the ACWAY Charter for Peace, a declaration to promote harmony and prevent conflict around the world.
Inspired by an aspiration for sustainable world peace and freedom, with a willingness to change society through intercultural and interfaith dialogue, the youth ambassadors of ACWAY committed themselves to the values and articles of the Charter and appealed to youth across the world to join with them to prevent conflict and promote global harmony.
