Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gosford Australia Stake (Diocese) have gathered together across the Central Coast region participating in several community service and outreach programs within their communities.
Members of the Normanhurst congregation gathered at one of these worksites at Mt Colah to learn more about the Bushcare program, participating in the process of rehabilitating the local environment. The Bushcare program has been running since 1989 and is one of the largest of its kind in the state of New South Wales with more than 100 sites.
Further up the coast the Young Single Adults (YSA) went along to Shelly Beach for a Mormon Helping Hands project in conjunction with the Central Coast Council Landcare groups. The YSA helped by removing debris and planting trees. They even had a good old Aussie BBQ.
Public Affairs Director of the Gosford Stake, Dallin Jarvis explained, “There are many benefits for everyday people to volunteer and become a part of a local community group like the Landcare programs. Not only are we able to help restore the local bushland, but we can help create a better natural environment for current and future generations".
The Mormon Helping Hands program brings together members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their neighbors in providing humanitarian service in their local communities. The Helping Hands program reflects the desire of Latter-day Saints to follow the example of Jesus Christ by serving others.
