Macarthur Missionary Safely Home

The timing was perfect for Kirwen Murrin, who recently returned home to Macarthur from the New Zealand Wellington Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  As the only missionary on the flight home, Elder Murrin felt grateful that he was able to serve a full-time mission. A later return could have been problematic for Kirwen who has experienced asthma and respiratory issues in the past.

Elder Kirwen Murrin served as a missionary in the New Zealand Wellington Mission.

Currentlly in the second half of a 14-day mandatory self-isolation period, Kirwen has shown no signs of COVID-19 virus and is in good spirits, settling back into home life. Whilst the expected Church young adult social gatherings may be suspended, Kirwen is thankful for the inspired home studies programs that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided.

Missionaries world-wide have and will be sent home to serve in a way that looks very different as the health crisis worsens. Kirwen is in contact with several former missionary companions in New Zealand, which is now in Stage 4 lockdown.

One way Kirwen’s mother, Naomi, has kept updated with missionary news is through ‘Missionary Mommas,’ a global platform for parents to get information. “It can be very stressful for everyone,” Naomi said.

As a family that lives in a rural area, Naomi feels they are staying positive and doing well. “There’s plenty of space and we have projects on the property that keep our children busy – I think we’re thriving.”

As for Kirwen, he is looking to the future and making plans to begin employment.
