Macarthur Stake 'Lights the Community' Through Education

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are currently being held at the Macarthur Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsored by the stake’s Self Reliance committee. The classes will also be taught in 2019.

The classes are open to those desiring to improve their English communication skills in reading, writing and speaking.

Mrs. Bronwen Moir, a retired primary school teacher and principal who developed the course is well-qualified as the teacher. Her experience includes curriculum design for dyslexic students in the UK, teaching ESL through Centrelink and lecturing at Charles Sturt University.

She observes, “The ESL classes at Macarthur are adapted to individuals with varying levels of education. Education is important to the success of each individual.”

President Nelson (President of the Church) has been clear in his advice to everyone concerning education. He has expressed, “Education is yours to obtain. No one else can gain it for you. Wherever you are, develop a deep desire to learn.”

Bronwen has now been called to serve as the multi-stake self reliance specialist in English Connect.

This ESL series of classes taught by Mrs. Moir have been an overwhelming blessing to those who have participated with her. She has created a beautiful way to 'Light the Community.'
