Millions More Australian Family History Records To Be Digitised and Indexed

FamilySearch has signed two new contracts with Australian government offices that will make millions more Australian family history records accessible online.

The first phase of the project will be digitally photographing records from the Public Records Office in Victoria and from South Australia State Records.  The Victoria records include:

Passenger Lists to and from Victorian ports from 1839 to 1923
Probate and Administration Files from 1937-1950  (about 2.5 million images)
Land Selection Registers, 1860-1940’s.

The second phase will be digitising several million records specific to South Australia State covering:

School Admissions
Registers of Prisoners

Inward and Outward Passenger Lists from South Australian ports

After the records are digitised, they will move online, where the records will be ready for indexing. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the indexing process.   The new records will be available on familysearch.org.
