Missionaries Lift Rotary Club Through Joint Service Project

For some years, the Rotary Club of West Lakes, SA, Australia, has not attempted a major project.  Then, eight months ago, an opportunity arose to send a recovered playground to the Philippines.  It sounded simple enough, but very quickly, the challenges appeared. Funding, logistics, and age demographics became stumbling blocks. Just as momentum seemed to fade, a surprising solution appeared.

A club member spotted a Facebook post from a community group offering volunteer service work.  One thing led to another, and within weeks, they had a team of enthusiastic volunteers onboard.

These volunteers were missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by President Rhys Standley of the Australia Adelaide Mission.  The Church of Jesus Christ believes the two great commandments are to love God and to love your neighbour. Members of the Church feel serving others is a sacred responsibility.

Alongside the incredible efforts of club members in sourcing a wide range of donations, they were able to pack an entire 20-foot container with educational materials, medical supplies, and playground equipment. The club was fortunate to have the enthusiastic support of the young missionaries who assisted with the labour demands of the project. Their work ethic, positivity, and willingness to serve made all the difference.

The missionaries are available to help with service projects from Adelaide through to Darwin and are ready to collaborate with any group or family.
