News Release

New Local Leadership for Sydney Saints

Two stakes (diocese) were re-named as boundaries were changed in the Sydney area and congregations were assigned at stake conferences for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently.

The new Harbour Stake, formerly Hyde Park, was expanded with additional wards (congregations) from the Ryde, Manly and Harbord areas now under the leadership of Danny Hamilton. Bardia Paki and Tim Shiu have been called as his counselors. Elder Brent Nielson, of the Pacific area presidency, called President Hamilton and his counselors to their assignments. He was assisted by Elder Peter Meurs, of the Seventy.

The new Baulkham Hills Stake, formerly Greenwich Stake, continues under the leadership of Rohn Rigby, with Mitch Howard and Siosefa Palu, the latter formerly of the Parramatta stake, as his counselors. Two wards from the Parramatta stake joined the Baulkham Hills stake. The remaining Parramatta congregations joined the Liverpool stake which is led by Robert Simpson.

Members in Church leadership do not run for office, nor seek the assignment. The area seventy, stake presidents and bishops are lay leaders, meaning they have ordinary jobs and receive no monetary compensation for their years of church service.

Following items of local business voted on by church members, saints (church members) across Australia were instructed from Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah via satellite. Members were counseled to build faith through prayer and scripture study, to honour womanhood, and to serve missions - where they support themselves financially while serving others.
