Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Pakenham, Australia joined friends and neighbours to plant native trees and grasses in the Cardinia Creek Parkland Reserve, Beaconsfield on Saturday 19 October.
Despite inclement weather, a sizeable group, of all ages, enjoyed their time working together.
Glenn Brooks-MacMillan, of Cardinia Catchment Landcare, shared his knowledge of the region and best planting practices.
Cardinia Catchment Landcare is a community group founded 20 years ago to improve the environment on public and private land in the Cardinia Creek area.
Glenn said, “We work with various community groups and encourage them to learn more about conservation and caring for the environment by planting on the land around them.”
Aaron Skipwith, bishop (lay leader) of the Pakenham Ward (congregation) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, “We have a close-knit community, and this service project is an opportunity to give back. This service project not only allows us to share our love with our neighbours, but it also strengthens our congregation’s love for each other.”
The dozens of new native plants will help return this area to its former beauty and allow the local citizens to enjoy the area.
