The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Melbourne’s Northwest recently organized and conducted Ballarat's Annual Choral Festival. The festival has now been presented by the Church for 20 years.
Cliff Broome, the Latter-day Saint bishop in the area when the first festival took place 20 years ago, said, “The festival is now a memorable and ongoing event that identifies the Church in the Ballarat community, builds interfaith and community relationships, and supports the needy.”
“In past years the event has been held at the St Andrews Uniting Church cathedral,” he continued. “But for the last two years it has been held at Ballarat’s St Patrick’s Catholic cathedral, which was filled to capacity (this year).”
The Church worked with other faiths and community groups in the region in staging the event for singers of all ages. The performance was free to the public – although donations were collected for the Uniting Church to support their UnitingCare outreach program.
