Shovels Speak Louder than Words in Qld

The day was hot, but there was work enough to do as nearly 100 youth set the grounds of Currimundi Special School in order. The volunteers, who were attending a week-end Youth Conference, spent their Saturday morning doing the needed yard work.

They mulched, filled up the sand pit, gardened and pulled weeds. In spite of the heat, the enthusiasm of the workers carried the day.
"They were running with their wheelbarrows," said Nathan Nichol, one of the youth leaders.

When the work was done, the site was much improved, and the grounds keeper expressed great thanks to the crowd of sweaty labourers. The teens were obviously happy with the outcome, as well.

The Youth Conference, held at the Currimundi Recreational Camp, was part of the Church's youth program. Such conferences allow the young people to meet others of their faith from a broader geographic area as they engage in service and gospel learning.

Other conference activities included a dance, "Speed Dating", an "Amazing Race" treasure hunt, and a Sunday church service.
