Standing for Something Award Presented to Logan QLD Former Mayor

Pam Parker, former mayor of Logan, QLD received the Standing for Something Award from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday the 11th of September at a special youth conference held at the Karawatha building in the Brisbane Australia Logan stake. Over 800 young people and their leaders heard Ms Parker address the theme for the event, “Decisions Determine Destiny.”

During the evening she was presented the prestigious award; “In recognition of her service and dedication to the community with integrity and Christian principles.”  Ms. Parker was raised in humble circumstances and worked hard to become a dedicated, strong and compassionate leader, earning the title of the “People’s Mayor.”

During Ms Parker’s remarks she encouraged the audience to continually say and reflect on the phrase “I can, I will. Watch me!” At the end of the conference one of the youth remarked, “Tonight has been very inspiring. It has made me feel I can do anything.”

Following the presentation Ms Parker and other community and church leaders addressed questions from the audience about concerns young people are facing. Some of the questions were, “How can I care for those who have different beliefs and standards?” and “What piece of advice would you give your 21-year-old self that we can take with us tonight?”

Former mayor Parker continues to volunteer with local community groups to mentor the young people of Logan and surrounding areas.

Recipients of the Standing for Something Award have included physicians, political and military leaders, educators and those who have helped disadvantaged, indigenous and disabled people. All have laboured with courage and have given of their time and means to make life better for others.
