Terrence M. Vinson Sustained as Member of the Presidency of the Seventy

        

Terence M. Vinson was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 6 April 2013. He was named a member of the Presidency of the Seventy on 31 March 2018. Elder Vinson’s assignment becomes effective 1 August 2018.

Prior to his new calling, Elder Vinson served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy. He was the first Australian resident to be called as a General Authority.

Elder Vinson from Sydney, grew up in a Catholic family and was introduced to the Mormon faith through Kay Anne Carden, whom he later married in May 1974. Three months after they married, Elder Vinson attended the Church’s Institute program to learn more of the gospel. He became class president during his first year of membership.

“My voracious appetite to learn of the Lord’s ways has not waned,” says Elder Vinson.

In 1974, Elder Vinson received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics from Sydney University and a teaching diploma from Sydney Teachers College. He also received a master’s degree in applied finance from Macquarie University. After teaching math at universities, he worked as a financial adviser and funds manager for 23 years. In 2011 Elder Vinson retired as joint CEO and chairman of a firm called Northhaven Wealth Management.

Elder Vinson has served in numerous callings including a counsellor in a bishopric, bishop, counsellor in a stake presidency and mission presidency, temple ordinance worker and Area Seventy.

He and his wife Kay Anne Carden are the parents of six children.
