Dr Mark Robinson (MP), accepted a Standing for Family Values Award on Saturday 19th August at the Cleveland Stake Centre (Diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Since his election to the Queensland parliament in 2009, Dr Robinson has taken a strong stance on ‘traditional family values’. In his remarks, he stated, “the family is the basic building block of society. Communities are strong when their families are strong.”
He remarked, "My wife and I have worked hard to create a warm and loving environment in our home. I value my family and they have had a great influence on me. I would not be able to do what I do without their support. The strong traditional family unit has made our nation great. I believe that governments must enact laws that help families to be strong and stay together."
With his wife Julie by his side, and his family in attendance, the recognition award to the Robinsons recognised their public and private contributions to the community which aligned with traditional family values and religious beliefs that are consistent with Latter-day Saint doctrine on marriage and family.
Official guests for the evening included Andrew Laming MP (Federal Member for Bowman), Matthew McEachan (State MP for Redlands) and Councillor Paul Bishop of the Redlands City Council.
Elder Keith Walker, Area Seventy and senior leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Queensland reminded guests of the Proclamation on the Family describing it as "an inspired document" which was given by prophetic direction in 1995 to emphasise the central place of families and marriage in a modern pluralistic world.
Recipients of awards similar to the one received by Dr Robinson have included physicians, political military leaders, educators and those who have helped disadvantaged, indigenous and disabled people. All have laboured with courage and have given of their time and means to make life better for others.
