A Weekend on the Education Journey

Sydney Macarthur Stake (diocese) and Self-Reliance Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosted an Education Weekend on 15th to 17th February 2019. Based on the theme “What Manner of Men Ought Ye to Be” (3 Nephi 27:27), the event comprised workshops that focused on strengthening individuals’ and families’ skills and resilience in meeting the demands of contemporary living.

Mr. T. James Faustino, Director of the Admissions Department of Brigham Young University Hawaii, reminded participants attending the Friday evening session that ‘knowledge’ is independent of location and faculty. Quoting President Russell M. Nelson, he added that, “When you leave this frail existence, your material possessions will remain here, but …the knowledge you acquire here will rise with you in the resurrection.”

Councillor Ben Gilholme of Campbelltown City Council echoed a similar sentiment as he commented that knowledge, in application, can benefit the lives of others. He reflected on his occupation in disability services and said that he could not serve in his capacity without having first acquired knowledge.

Other visitors at the Friday sessions were The Hon Lou Amato MLC and Mr. Naji Peter Najjar representing Senator the Hon Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.
