The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced recently that it is joining the Australian Government’s National Redress Scheme to assist victims of historical institutional child abuse in Australia, and is working closely with the Redress Scheme officials to complete the formal participation process
Jesus Christ reserved some of his strongest language for his warning to would-be child abusers:
“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea,” (Matthew 18:6).
In line with that clear truth and doctrine, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had a historically publicized zero tolerance for abuse of any kind and is working:
- to protect children and other vulnerable individuals;
- to cooperate with legal authorities so perpetrators face the consequences of their actions;
- and to help all impacted by abuse to receive help, hope and healing
