Almost Two Tonnes of Staple Foods Donated to Foodbank

Latter-day Saints in Perth recently donated a total of 1,980 kilograms (1.98 tonnes) of non-perishable staple foods to Foodbank for distribution to the less fortunate in Western Australia.

The donation was in response to an appeal by Foodbank for urgently needed non-perishable staple foods in the months leading up to Christmas 2017.

Members of the Perth Australia Dianella and Southern River Stakes (dioceses) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints jointly responded by donating packets of dry pasta, rice, breakfast cereals, canned fruit & vegetables, baked beans, canned spaghetti, jams, pasta sauces and other staples.

"What has been donated will provide for approximately 3,960 much needed meals," responded Mr Andrew Wilkinson, Fund Raising and Partnerships Manager of Foodbank Australia (WA). "I am overwhelmed by the generous donation of members of your church."

At a formal handover event on Sunday 17 December 2017, Stake President Ryan Jenkinson remarked, "This is the sixth year that the Church has been involved in annual Foodbank appeals and we pledge our support for this most worthy cause."
