Elder S. Gifford Nielsen of the Pacific Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his wife, Wendy Nielsen, met with senior government officials in Port Moresby recently.
Elder and Sister Nielsen met with Hon Delilah Gore, Minister of Religion, Youth and Community Development on Saturday 5 September.
A week earlier, the Nielsens met with Mr Tony Walwal and Ms Molly Mangula, senior officials in the Ministry of Religion, Youth and Community Development.
The Nielsens were travelling with Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his wife, Jan Robbins, and Pacific Area Seventy, Elder Jeffrey D. Cummings.
"Minister Gore, Ms Mangula and Mr Walwal share many of the same values we hold dear, and important goals we are working towards," Elder Nielsen said.
"We are all striving to bless the children, youth, families and all people of Papua New Guinea. The closer we work with our friends in government, other churches and charities, the more good we can do together, and the more the people of Papua New Guinea can be strengthened with hope, faith, education, self-reliance and happier homes."
Elder Nielsen added, "We are grateful for the leaders of Papua New Guinea and pray that God will bless them with wisdom and courage as they continue in their vital work."
There are over 23,000 Latter-day Saints in 71 congregations in Papua New Guinea.
