Elder Andrew M. O'Riordan was honourably released as an Area Seventy in the Pacific Area at the October 2017 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder O'Riordan served faithfully for 5 1/2 years in the Eighth Quorum of the Seventy.
Conference assignments to the Seventy come from the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Elder O'Riordan has had assignments throughout the Pacific during his tenure.
During his time as an Area Seventy Elder O'Riordan has had responsibilities for Victoria & Tasmania, New South Wales, and most recently Western and South Australia. His other assignments have included working with the Young and Single Adults in the Pacific Area.
Looking back on his service, Elder O'Riodan remarked, "Serving as an Area Seventy was a rich blessing. I felt the great love that our Saviour has for all of Heavently Father's children and also felt the power of peace and happiness that His gospel brings into our lives when we seek to follow Him."
"This principle is confirmed in Elder Rasbands recent address in the October General Conference of the Church where he teaches that in the ministry of Jesus Christ there are no coincidences. I met people and was impressed to say things and make invitations to them that did not originate in my mind, but were given to me to speak by the Holy Spirit," commented Elder O'Riordan.
Elder Robert J. Dudfield currently serving as an Area Sevently in Australia and Papua New Guinea, expresses his gratitude by saying, “Elder Andrew O’Riordan has served the members of the Pacific tirelessly over the last 5 1/2 years. His drive to share the gospel and to reach out to those in need has been a great example to me."
A new assignment has recently been extended to the O'Riordans to serve as Mission President and companion and preside over one of the missions of the Church. The specific mission and location is to be announced soon. They will report to the Missionary Training Centre in June, 2018.
