Latter-day Saints Break Ground on New Meetinghouse in Loganholme, Australia

Construction on a new meeting house for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Loganholme, Queensland was formally commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony held in early October, 2018.

The ceremony was presided over by Area Seventy Elder Carl R. Maurer and was attended by local church and civic leaders including friends and honoured guests from local, state and federal government.

John D. Jeffrey, a former Church leader in the area, spoke of the humble beginnings for the Church in the Beenleigh area when just over 20 people met for Church meetings in a leader’s home.

Newly-formed this year, the Brisbane Australia Beenleigh Stake (diocese) of the Church includes more than 3,000 Latter-day Saints organized in six local “wards” or congregations including a Samoan-speaking congregation. There are another 11 stakes of the Church of similar size across Southeast Queensland.

The new Loganholme meeting house will be a place of regular worship for members of the Church living in up to three local congregations in the area.

Francis Iva, currently serving as president of the Beenleigh Stake said, “We are very excited to have a chapel constructed in our community. We feel this will be a great blessing for the people of this area and the members of the Church. The chapel is a place where the members of the Church will meet and worship often and a place where all visitors are welcome.”

Church meetinghouses are used for Sunday worship services as well as weekday early-morning scripture study for high school students, youth activities, interfaith events and community service projects.

Mr Bert van Manen MP, Federal Member for Forde, said that it was, “A beautiful morning to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony and to commence work on the new worship centre for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Loganholme. To see the vision being brought to fruition is a great testimony to all involved.”

The new meetinghouse is due for completion in 2020.
