The Normanhurst Ward (congregation) of the Gosford Australia Stake (diocese) recently hosted an ‘Invitation Sunday’ where church members took the opportunity to invite local leaders, community groups, religious groups and members of the wider community to come and learn more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Normanhurst Ward and Gosford Stake (diocese) regularly set aside Sunday meetings for these ‘Invitation Sundays’ where they generate a discussion on community values and beliefs. One congregation member, Jan Muggleton, went down to her local Federal Parliamentarian’s office and invited Mr Julian Leeser, Federal Member for Berowra to attend.
Sister Jan Muggleton explained that she felt it was important to be involved with your elected leaders to ensure that there is a commonality of shared values and understanding. Mr. Leeser took up the opportunity and participated in Normanhurst Ward’s recent Sunday meetings.
Mr Leeser expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about the Church. Mr. Leeser also extended an invitation to Normanhurst Ward’s Bishop, Winston Jeffery, to be involved with a local mental health committee which addresses mental health issues in families within the electorate of Berowra.
For many people who may not have attended or visited The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, these Sunday Church meetings are a hub of religious and social life. The most important part of the week is the hour-long sacrament meeting. At that sacrament meeting, similar to other Christian worship services, individuals and families offer prayers, give sermons on Jesus Christ, sing hymns and partake of the sacrament.
