Rochedale South State School was given a spring makeover by 200 volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints last Saturday, 27 October. This activity was held as part of the Pacific-wide "Day of Service" held by the Church for its members in Australia, and throughout the Pacific. The Church members came from the Eight Mile Plains Stake (diocese) in Queenland. They worked as part of the Church's Helping Hands program. This program partners members of the Church with government and non-profit organisations to support and improve the communities where they live.
School Principal Michelle Butler expressed herself as being “deeply appreciative” of the cleaning, landscaping, painting and much more that was accomplished. She noted the “wonderful contribution to their local community” that was provided. “Paying for that work would have cost many tens of thousands of dollars which the school simply does not have,” she explained.
“It’s amazing to see what can be achieved when a group of people work together for a common purpose,” commented President Asa Smibert, Stake President in the Eight Mile Plains Stake.
