On the first weekend of October, 55 young men aged 12-17 and 20 leaders of the Sunshine Coast Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organised and participated in a camp at Wondai (between Kingaroy and Murgon).
As part of their planned events, the stake young men's group were involved in a range of fun activities but also took the opportunity to provide much needed service to the Wondai Sports ground.
Wondai Sports Ground is a not-for-profit organisation with grounds and facilities being used by the local community for a range of activities including sports for disadvantaged kids.
For some time the sports ground managers have wanted to have the pipe boundary fence removed, inasmuch as it posed a health and safety risk to their patrons. However the projected cost of around $7,000.00 to have the removal work done has always been beyond the organisation's grasp.
The Church young men’s group volunteered to take down the rusted boundary fence surrounding the entire rugby ground. It took them two and half hours of hard work but they completed the job. The grounds manager was amazed and grateful as he had expected they would only be able to get part of the job done.
Ashwood Caesar, Stake Young Men’s leader said, “As a youth leader it is always rewarding when you see your youth take Christ-like principles taught to them and independently encourage and enlist each other to serve their fellow men.”
