More than 400 women aged 16 and over recently gathered at the Firle chapel in Adelaide to listen to Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sister Eubank was visiting Adelaide in her capacity as Director of LDS Charities and met earlier in the day with religious, political, and academic leaders as part of a Law and Religion Symposium to discuss religious freedom.
The main themes of her address to the women centred around faith, family and the need to relieve suffering. Sister Eubank reminded the women that the Relief Society organisation was organized in 1842 to empower women to do good continually, and bless others through their service.
"You are entitled to Heavenly power as you go about serving others and saving souls," counseled Sister Eubank.
"It is one thing to ask our Father in Heaven to bless others. It is another to actively seek to know how to specifically help and serve that person," emphasised Sister Eubank.
At the conclusion of Sister Eubank’s remarks, participants were invited to ask questions. Those questions centred around how to reach out in love and help others feel welcome. Sister Eubank encouraged the women to avoid judging others by seeing them as who they truly are - sons and daughters of the same Heavenly Father.
It is not often that a member of the General Relief Society Presidency visits Australia. Those present were uplifted and inspired by the experience.
