Sports Day Unites Faiths In Logan

Participating in sports is often seen as a powerful way to build unity, teamwork and friendships. Over the past weekend young adults from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined with members from the local Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to participate in an interfaith sports day. The event was held at the Latter-day Saint Karawatha building. Sports on offer included basketball, volleyball, soccer and table tennis.

In  attendance were Cr Laurie Koranski (Logan City Council), Mr. Linus Power (State member for Logan), Mr. Duncan Pegg (State member for Stretton) and local church leaders from the Muslim and Latter-day Saint faiths.

There was a great response to the event from all involved, and many praised its friendliness and acceptance. Mr. Duncan Pegg remarked, “There has been much dialogue between different faiths but it is good to see them get together just to have fun.” A representative from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community echoed those sentiments, commenting, “I had high expectations of this activity and my expectations have been exceeded.”
