This September and October, YouTube sensations, The Piano Guys are coming to Australia for their first-ever Australian concert tour. They will be performing across the country to many sold-out audiences, even adding an extra show in the Sydney Opera House due to huge ticket demands.
The Piano Guys are a four-man group comprised of Jon Schmidt (pianist), Steven Sharp Nelson (cellist), Paul Anderson (videographer) and Al van der Beek (music producer). These four men are all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jon and Steven have been performing together since 2008. However, The Piano Guys began in 2009 as a “social media strategy” conceived by Paul Anderson, the owner of a piano store in St. George, Utah, USA. Paul only hoped to promote his music store when Jon and Steven’s version of "Viva la Vida meets Love Story" was uploaded to YouTube. In their wildest dreams they could not have anticipated the eventual fame that would result from that initial video posting!
From that time, The Piano Guys have delighted in finding new locations in a variety of open-air, beautiful settings in nature, places where nobody would expect to see a piano, to film their equally awe-inspiring musical arrangements. They have even gone so far as to airlift a piano via helicopter into some of these unique settings. They firmly believe that the authenticity of their videos is as important as the music. The group's music can be described as a hybrid between modern songs and classical pieces, extracting the best of both and fusing them together in exciting movements. In August, 2016, The Piano Guys surpassed one billion views on YouTube, with views and subscribers increasing every day. Multiple albums also reached #1 on the Billboard Classical Albums and New Age Albums charts.
The Piano Guys are very excited about their first Australian tour. They are also excited to share their passion for music and their faith in a sacred evening devotional on 27 September, 2018, 7.00 pm, at the Karawatha Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 290 Compton Road, Karawatha, Queensland.
